Contemporary Wedding Cakes

You’d like a wedding cake… TODAY?!

I was on my way home, and received a phone call form a very stressed wedding venue… the cake they’d ordered from somewhere else had been in a car crash and broke… could I make anything for that day? I hate for someone to not have a cake, so I put on my apron and got this made in a few hours! It got to the venue just in time for the cutting – I had to drive very carefully as it was so fresh. A stressful day, but rewarding that they got a cake for their photos! We usually require a weeks notice for a simple birthday cake, preferably 2 weeks. Wedding cakes can take 4 weeks notice sometimes, so it’s best to enquire early on so you know for sure…. but it’s always worth asking if you haven’t given us much time, you never know! If we can help, we will.

Sandon Hall pearl wedding cake

This pearl themed wedding cake was made using edible sugar pearls – I painstakingly stuck on the edible pearls one by one around the edge of each cake, and to join the 2 bottom tiers over the ribbon. We made sugar paste roses, and displayed a simple posy on the top tier, and off centre posy’s around the lower tiers. I love a simple colour scheme on a wedding cake, and this is a really nice example of a simple colour scheme paying off!

Lots of little wedding cakes!

This cute cake tower is made up of individual pieces of cake, in ivory and burgundy (vanilla and chocolate)! Each one had a handmade sugar paste rose in the same colour as the cake it was sat on, and we made the top tier to match! It’s really popular to have the top tier in fruit in a situation like this, to have 3 flavours, although I believe the top tier of this cake was chocolate :)

We made loads of these individually iced cakes, but they wouldn’t all fit onto the stand! We can leave them around on the table, or leave them with catering staff to fill up for you when the time’s right. I would say you don’t need 1 per person, as they easily feed 2, sometimes more! If you love the idea of cakes like this, it’s worth coming in to see us for more information, as we can do a lot with them!

Wedding cake for chocolate addicts!

This is one of my favourite wedding cakes ever! I love doing chocolate work, and also edible models – it’s rare that I get to combine the two! The idea of a 3 tier chocolate cake with different flavour chocolate on each one, and the top to have a chocolate box lid (with a purple bow!!) had me very excited, and I got to make all these different flavour chocolate truffles to cascade down the front on the cake too! I love my job.

To add a bit of humour, we made an edible bride and groom scoffing the cake!! The bride sent me photos of her dress, and we made the groom wearing his football teams kit! (a surprise from the bride to the groom)

The handmade truffles make lovely favours too – and I always make a few extra (which my husband and the Moat house staff seem to appreciate!) I had so many spare that we put them in a bowl next to the cake!!

Simple 1 tier flower cakes – for any occasion!

These 2 simple cakes are perfect for golden anniversaries, (and can be adapted to silver or ruby very easily) and birthdays or weddings! To the right is a cake designed for a golden anniversary, which was ivory with gold band and writing, and the flowers were also ivory with gold centres. This flower spray was mainly orchids and carnations, but had bears grass and ribbon in there too!

To the left is a wedding cake (which went all the way to Scotland!) it was again very simple, with ivory icing and a gold band, but this time with a flamboyant calla lilly spray! The centres were again painted gold, and we went to town with the bears grass and a simple bit of greenery to make it a striking centrepiece for the table. If you wanted this cake with a message we could always write on the board for you!

I’ve also added this cake to this post – another white and gold cake with simple flowers, with the board decorated too! This one has freshias and roses in gold and white. As you can see, you can tell us what you’d like and we make it exactly to your taste!

Blue fresh flowers wedding cake

This 3 tier cake has a cute royal icing pattern around the edges, and were separated with polystyrene to leave room for the fresh flowers! If you’d like fresh flowers on your cake – please consult with your florist, as some flowers are poisonous and would leave the cake inedible. We are quite happy to deliver and set the cake up for you with the flowers, although we would expect you to arrange the flowers with your florist,  and we can speak to your florist about sizes and delivery.

Burgundy Calla Lily cake

This 4 tier calla lily wedding cake is ivory and burgundy, and has sponge on the bottom 2 tiers and fruit on the top 2! We added curly green bears grass to create a cascading look. I really like that the decoration is on the corner of the cake rather than the front, which would be a more traditional option, but you can alter this cake to suit your exact tastes! Email us, call us, or pop into the shop for more ideas on how to make this your perfect wedding cake.

Giant Burgundy Wedding Cupcake Tower

This Burgundy cupcake tower had chocolate and vanilla cupcakes to match, which trailed off to the side! We made a sugar paste bride and groom sat on top of the giant cupcake, and a massive butterfly to match the tiny butterflies on the cupcakes. The bride and groom’s are always fun to make, especially when they are quite unique, like these pair! If you bring us photo’s we can make them as accurate as possible

Purple Wonky Wedding

This lovely little 3 tier wedding cake is a small 3 tier – 3″, 6″, and 9″, but can come in medium or large!! (let us know how many you want to feed and we can guide you on the best sizes).

We can alter this design in any way you like – colour, pattern, shape, toppers! Pop into the shop, bring along anything that inspires you, and we can draw you up a few ideas

Chocolate malteaser cake with pink roses!

The chocolate malteaser cake is still very popular! We have made it with cascading malteasers, handmade truffles, and flowers before now. I love it with the pink roses cascading down the front too!! This one also has an edible bride and groom!
