Contemporary Wedding Cakes

Second champagne drinking bride and groom cake

Here is a display cake we’ve made which is similar to a real wedding cake we did recently – we made the 3 tier square cake staggered for a more contemporary look, and decorated the edges with edible gerberas and curly bears grass. On top is an edible bride and groom made from sugar paste. If you’d like something similar you can book a consultation with us where we can design your cake with you, taste some different flavours of cake, and get a quote!

Handmade rose wedding cake

I love a really detailed cake that’s all in cream! This 3 tier sponge was vanilla sponge with butterscotch, passion fruit, and mango butter cream, covered in cream icing, and covered in handmade sugar paste roses! It had over 200 roses in total, and took a long time to make, but I’m very happy with the end result; it was definitely worth it!

Richard and Sarah’s cupcake tower

This simple heart themed cupcake tower had strawberry and cream cupcakes, and chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, with alternate hearts – complete with a matching top tier! The colours of the day were pink, white, and silver and the cake tied in perfectly! If you’d like a cupcake tower to match your day – come and see us for a no obligation consultation and cake tasting

Victoria sponge vintage wedding cake

This cake was designed by the bride to tie in with her vintage themed wedding! The bride and groom love victoria sandwiches, and wanted a rustic looking, 3 tiered heart shaped cake with the butter cream and jam oozing out – and decorated with fresh fruit! I used fresh strawberries, raspberries and red grapes to match the colour scheme, and also added some fresh flowers and tiny bunting brought to me by the bride!

Champagne drinking bride and groom!

This lovely 3 tier cake was fruit at the bottom, sponge in the middle, and chocolate at the top!! Very simple in design, it has a few edible gerberas climbing the staggered tiers – and an edible bride and groom sat on top drinking champagne! The models are all handmade in the shop and we love to have photos to work with! The brides dress is unique, and was a lot of fun to make. If you like this cake – don’t forget we can change anything about it including colours, flavours and flowers. Get in touch to book a no obligation consultation with us

Calla Lilly Wedding Cupcake Tower

This gorgeous wedding cupcake tower has 100 vanilla cupcakes and a 6″ top tier. This could be easily adapted to any flower and any flavours/colours!

You’d like a wedding cake… TODAY?!

I was on my way home, and received a phone call form a very stressed wedding venue… the cake they’d ordered from somewhere else had been in a car crash and broke… could I make anything for that day? I hate for someone to not have a cake, so I put on my apron and got this made in a few hours! It got to the venue just in time for the cutting – I had to drive very carefully as it was so fresh. A stressful day, but rewarding that they got a cake for their photos! We usually require a weeks notice for a simple birthday cake, preferably 2 weeks. Wedding cakes can take 4 weeks notice sometimes, so it’s best to enquire early on so you know for sure…. but it’s always worth asking if you haven’t given us much time, you never know! If we can help, we will.

Sandon Hall pearl wedding cake

This pearl themed wedding cake was made using edible sugar pearls – I painstakingly stuck on the edible pearls one by one around the edge of each cake, and to join the 2 bottom tiers over the ribbon. We made sugar paste roses, and displayed a simple posy on the top tier, and off centre posy’s around the lower tiers. I love a simple colour scheme on a wedding cake, and this is a really nice example of a simple colour scheme paying off!

Lots of little wedding cakes!

This cute cake tower is made up of individual pieces of cake, in ivory and burgundy (vanilla and chocolate)! Each one had a handmade sugar paste rose in the same colour as the cake it was sat on, and we made the top tier to match! It’s really popular to have the top tier in fruit in a situation like this, to have 3 flavours, although I believe the top tier of this cake was chocolate :)

We made loads of these individually iced cakes, but they wouldn’t all fit onto the stand! We can leave them around on the table, or leave them with catering staff to fill up for you when the time’s right. I would say you don’t need 1 per person, as they easily feed 2, sometimes more! If you love the idea of cakes like this, it’s worth coming in to see us for more information, as we can do a lot with them!

Wedding cake for chocolate addicts!

This is one of my favourite wedding cakes ever! I love doing chocolate work, and also edible models – it’s rare that I get to combine the two! The idea of a 3 tier chocolate cake with different flavour chocolate on each one, and the top to have a chocolate box lid (with a purple bow!!) had me very excited, and I got to make all these different flavour chocolate truffles to cascade down the front on the cake too! I love my job.

To add a bit of humour, we made an edible bride and groom scoffing the cake!! The bride sent me photos of her dress, and we made the groom wearing his football teams kit! (a surprise from the bride to the groom)

The handmade truffles make lovely favours too – and I always make a few extra (which my husband and the Moat house staff seem to appreciate!) I had so many spare that we put them in a bowl next to the cake!!
