Unique Wedding Cakes

Madagascan themed wedding cake

This 18″ shaped chocolate cake was made from a few designs brought to us by the bride and groom. The wedding had a Madagascan theme – and the whole cake design was based upon the movie Madagascar. The hippos, lake, and trees are all edible. We love it when we get the chance to make unusual wedding cakes – this cake could cover anniversaries, engagements, and birthdays! Stunning cream rose wedding cake

This absolutely beautiful wedding cake is completely covered in sugar paste roses, which were all painstakingly made by hand (while I drank lots and lots of tea)  and stuck to a 3 tier cream wedding cake. Each tier had 3 layers of madeira sponge in each, with flavoured butter cream in passion fruit, mango, and butterscotch. There were just over 200 roses on this cake – and it’s one of my favourite wedding cakes I’ve ever made.

Victoria sponge vintage wedding cake

This cake was designed by the bride to tie in with her vintage themed wedding! The bride and groom love victoria sandwiches, and wanted a rustic looking, 3 tiered heart shaped cake with the butter cream and jam oozing out – and decorated with fresh fruit! I used fresh strawberries, raspberries and red grapes to match the colour scheme, and also added some fresh flowers and tiny bunting brought to me by the bride!

Hawaiian short groom!

We have made similar designs to this cake before in various colours, flavours, and with butterflies instead of roses – but I believe this is the first time I have ever made a groom in Hawiian shorts, flip flops, and a suit jacket! I love making edible bride and grooms – you are welcome to email me some photos over to Tinasoden@aol.com and I will save them ready for your wedding cake

Christmas wedding part 2!

I love Christmas weddings!! Check out this tower of individually iced cake pieces, with a fruit cake top tier. Including a family of edible snowmen – bride, groom and 2 boys (complete with light sabers!) and individual cakes in carrot cake (snowmen faces), chocolate cake (parcels) and madeira sponge (snowflakes) which we made to keep with the black and green colour scheme and snowflake theme!

Christmas wedding part 1

This Christmas wedding cake was a 12″ fruit cake, and it was displayed at a Christmas party where the bride and groom were going to announce to their family that they secretly got married!! (I love being in on a secret!!) The bride specified that she wanted a coca cola train, and suggested a santa style edible bride and groom – and left the rest to us! I made an edible christmas tree and snowballs, and decorated the cake with snowflakes. The train had ‘Mr and Mrs’ written onto it too! Cute!

Red petal wedding cupcake tower

This red petal cupcake tower is one of my favourite cupcake towers ever! It’s simplicity in having all vanilla topping (although there were many different flavours of sponge) and an ivory top tier, with red ribbon, cases and edible petals is so effective and striking. The top tier has red roses and cascading petals, which carries onto the cupcakes and the table too!

Elegant detailed 3 tier wedding cake

How pretty is this wedding cake??! Each tier was a different flavour, and although there is a lot of detail going on, it still has a simple and elegant feel to it! We hired a ‘sweeping’ stand, as the groom really liked the cascading effect, but wanted each tier separate. We made the flowers quite chunky and all shades of pink and burgundy to match the colour scheme of the day, and arranged the flowers with bears grass to carry thought the sweeping effect.

The pattern on the side of each cake matched the brides wedding dress, and was piped on by hand using royal icing and silver sugar balls, and carried right around each cake.

Wedding cake for chocolate addicts!

This is one of my favourite wedding cakes ever! I love doing chocolate work, and also edible models – it’s rare that I get to combine the two! The idea of a 3 tier chocolate cake with different flavour chocolate on each one, and the top to have a chocolate box lid (with a purple bow!!) had me very excited, and I got to make all these different flavour chocolate truffles to cascade down the front on the cake too! I love my job.

To add a bit of humour, we made an edible bride and groom scoffing the cake!! The bride sent me photos of her dress, and we made the groom wearing his football teams kit! (a surprise from the bride to the groom)

The handmade truffles make lovely favours too – and I always make a few extra (which my husband and the Moat house staff seem to appreciate!) I had so many spare that we put them in a bowl next to the cake!!

Black and white wedding cake (and star wars theme!)

Here is a 3 tier wedding cake 6″,8″ and 10″ in black and white, which has edible hand made flowers to match! This cake is very bold and may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I love it!! The bride brought us a photo of a similar cake and asked for a very similar design in black and white. I was told they would bring me a topper – imagine my delight when I found out they were Star Wars toppers!! (Not the easiest to stand up, but a few cocktail sticks and a nerdy husband later and we got them sorted!!) As you can see, you can go as simple, delicate, colourful or novelty as you like with your wedding cake – don’t try to please anyone else with fillings or designs – just have a look around and if you want a bold statement piece in a random flavour with an unconventional topper go for it!!
